Creeping Jenny sounds like a scary movie you wouldn’t want young children to watch, doesn’t it?

Creeping Jenny (also known as Field Bindweed) is an innocent enough plant at first glance. Delicate green vines with heart-shaped leaves sprout pale pink & white blossoms. They are self-seeding and grow quickly, sending trailing vines up from the sidewalk or within a garden bed, wrapping snake-like around the stalks of other plants.

Ignore this invasion, and even the healthiest plants in your garden can be overtaken, toppled by the stealthy vines of this ubiquitous weed.

Doubt is like that, too. We may begin with a solid foundation, believing God has a plan for our businesses, families, and selves. Then, something unexpected or even disastrous happens, and tendrils of doubt creep in.

Where is God, we may ask, in the midst of this trial?

Doubt is a weed that if left unattended, can ensnare us in its grasp, weaken our faith, and choke us off from the good things God intends for us.

Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard?

The Lord is the everlasting God;

he created all the world.

He never grows tired or weary.

No one understands his thoughts.

He strengthens those who are weak and tired.

— Isaiah 40:28-29

Sometimes we view our working life and our faith life as two separate things, and we forget to include prayers for workplace confidence, for God’s hand in our business planning, and for faith that if God brought us to this place, he has a plan for us.
