5 Tips for Selling More T-Shirts

March 15, 2024

Apparel trends come and go, but the classic T-shirt is a wardrobe staple that stands the test of time.

First created by the U.S. Navy around 1898, you’d be hard-pressed to find a single American household without T-shirts in closets and drawers. We own T-shirts, we wear T-shirts, and most of us are open to purchasing more T-shirts for ourselves and as gifts. #Tshirts4All

5 Effective Tips for Selling More T-shirts in Your Store

Comfort matters. Your customers are more likely to make a purchase after touching the products in your store. T-shirts should be soft and breathable; cotton & cotton-poly blends rule, and if you carry products that feature extra soft combed or ringspun cotton, talk to shoppers about these features.

Make fun a factor. You are probably familiar with memes—humorous images that are shared by internet users. People like to laugh, and T-shirts with fun sayings or graphics are popular. Carry these styles, display them prominently, and promote them on social media to drive sales. Did you know you can copy/paste closeup images of our current designs right from the Kerusso wholesale website?

Boost sales with better T-shirt Displays. Displays that make it easy for customers to shop all available designs, save space, and clearly display T-shirt sizes (think size labels) will help you track inventory and help shoppers find what they want without destroying your display. Our award-winning Light House Apparel Center is an awesome solution.

Cross-sell T-shirts with other items. Surprise your customers with an attractive T-shirt display in another area of your store, such as Kids Tees alongside toys, or a collection of chic Ladies T-shirts near giftware or gardening goods. Consider placing a T-shirt display near checkout to encourage impulse sales. The example seen below successfully mixes a pretty T-shirt and giftables for mom.

Customer service sells. Your customer has chosen to offer your store the opportunity to sell them something special. It’s up to you to learn more about the person standing before you. Ask open-ended questions like, “What brought you in today?” If your customer is browsing T-shirts, ask, “Who are you shopping for today?” Or, “I see you’re checking out our fun kids T-shirts—are you shopping for a boy or a girl?”

A few more tips…

Unless a T-shirt is overtly feminine, most customers think of T-shirts as unisex.

Encourage your staff to wear current T-shirt stock, or purchase a favorite design for the whole team as part of the staff uniform.

Send emails and post to social media when new styles come in.
